Gandhi’s protest in South Africa

On 11 September 1906, Mahatma Gandhi led a meeting of over 3000 people in Johannesburg’s Empire Theatre. The town’s indians were protesting the Transvaal Asiatic Law Amendment Ordinance which required all Indians to carry passes and segregated them from the rest of society. known as Satyagraha, this was one of the first movements against inequality in South Africa.
